New Academic Heads Network in 2007
As part of a new strategic approach to senior leadership and management development at Monash, and in response to issues raised at fora such as the annual Academic Heads Conference, a new Academic Heads Network is being convened.
The purpose of the Academic Heads Network is:
- to support academic heads in their leadership and management roles by sharing good practice, drawing on the experience of the University and the group to solve common problems, and providing an opportunity to network in an informal environment.
A draft model of operation for the Network has been formulated by a panel comprising:
- Professor Kim Langfield-Smith (Head of Accounting & Finance)
- Associate Professor Graham Farr (Head of Caulfield School of IT)
- Associate Professor Colleen Lewis (Head of Gippsland School of Humanities Communications and Social Sciences)
- Professor Peter Scammells (Head of Medicinal Chemistry, Parkville)
- Associate Professor Arthur de Bono (Head of Design, Caulfield)
It is intended that for relevance and sustainability, the Network should be owned by its membership, which includes heads and deputy heads of school and department, campus-based heads of faculty, directors of academic units and directors of research, deputy deans and associate deans.
Three meetings are planned for 2007, as follows:
- Thursday 29 March, 12noon-2pm at the Bayview Conference Centre
- Thursday 31 May, 12noon-2pm, venue to be advised
- Wednesday 5 December, Christmas drinks from 4pm, venue to be advised
