Target group:Staff who have an interest in learning to realistically plan, to set and manage priorities and to manage their work so that longer term objectives and daily tasks are successfully achieved.
Group size:Maximum of 16
Level 1 program:Suitable for staff with limited experience in the area or who wish to refresh their skills.

Overview

The program provides participants with approaches to planning and priority setting to achieve objectives and carry out their role most effectively. It addresses planning and prioritisation of overall workload as well as providing a basic introduction to the planning of multistage projects. It focuses participants on their own work practices and issues, examines common problems with time 'consumers' and develops techniques for participants to maximise the productive use of their time.

Intended Outcomes

  • An understanding of the purpose of planning over a range of timeframes and the process of translation of plans into monthly, weekly and daily priority setting 
  • Knowledge of the key elements involved in planning small projects - and how to integrate project planning with total workload
  • An understanding of why we do not achieve our priorities, and strategies to deal with this
  • Awareness of our own practices and issues in managing priorities 
  • Knowledge of a range of techniques and approaches that can improve our effectiveness
  • Development of a personal action plan to improve our planning and its implementation
