Getting Started with Blackboard

Target group:

Academic and Professional Staff who are new to Blackboard and will have a Lecturer/Designer role assigned to them.

Group size:10 maximum
Level Introductory level program:

No prior experience is required. Staff are encouraged to view the online introductory presentation. The aim of this presentation is to enable staff to familiarise themselves with some of the background knowledge in order to receive the maximum benefit from the Workshop.

Overview

The focus of this workshop is to provide staff with relevant necessary information and skills to be able navigate in Blackboard, and to use the Course Tools and Designer Tools to create and edit content.

Intended Outcomes

  • Have a good understanding of the Learning Context Hiearchy, gaining access to Blackboard
  • Have a good understanding of the Navigation within Blackboard and customising Sections
  • Have the ability to organise content using Files and Folders
  • Have the ability to create content using Goals, Weblinks, Learning Modules, and Media Library Collections
  • Have the ability to use the Communication Tools, such as Discussions, Announcements, and Mail in Blackboard
  • Have the ability to use enrol staff and students in Blackboard Manager
  • Have a good understanding of the Section Backup processes
  • Have a good understanding of the Grade Book, Group Manager and the Selective Release Criteria
