MUSO Training

MUSO, an acronym for Monash University Studies Online, is the suite of learning management systems and tools which have been adopted by Monash University to facilitate your online teaching and learning experience. Most faculties use MUSO to deliver a variety of units. While the content varies with each unit, MUSO resources and features include:

  • unit outlines
  • lecture notes available for download
  • online discussion groups
  • calendar of key semester dates
  • quizzes and assessments.
Staff Development offers high quality training services designed to meet your needs. If the course you require is not listed please contact Julie Spencer, IT Training Consultant at it.training@adm.monash.edu.au. For academic staff, courses can be tailored and scheduled to suit your teaching/research requirements.

Classroom courses

Following consultation and needs analysis with key University staff, the training program is being redeveloped and has been rescheduled as requested. If you are unable to attend a scheduled session, you can request a customised learning session using our request form

Lecturers and administrative staff

These sessions are designed for staff who are doing tasks such as:

  • uploading content for students to download (Designer role)
  • creating assessment/assignment tasks for students (Designer role)
  • interacting with students (Lecturer role)
  • working with continuous assessment marks (Lecturer role)
Staff are encouraged to view the online introductory presentation. The aim of this presentation is two-fold.
  1. Staff can view this presentation to ensure that they have sufficient background knowledge to receive maximum benefit from training.
  2. Staff can view this presentation to refresh their understanding of online teaching and learning in the Monash context.

Basic Level Sessions

Lecturer/Designer Level 1

Blackboard Administrators

These sessions are designed for staff who are doing tasks such as:

  • managing Blackboard at the Division, Group, or Course level
  • creating Blackboard Sections
  • rolling over a Blackboard Section
  • enrolling staff and students into a Blackboard Section
  • archiving and deleting old Blackboard Sections
Staff attending these sessions are expected to have some background knowledge or understanding of:
  1. Blackboard Learning Context Hierarchy
  2. Teaching practices at Monash
  3. University and Business Unit policies related to online teaching and learning
