Overview

The management of conflict, disputes and grievances is an integral aspect of the management of employee relations. This program has been designed to provide a practical approach to –

  • the prevention of conflict; and
  • defining settling and managing conflict

Whilst the overall focus of the program will be on the application of a range of dispute resolution processes it will focus on mediation as a key management tool. Mediation is a process which can be used in a variety of supervisory or management contexts.

This program has been designed specifically to assist supervisors and managers to develop mediation skills to assist them in managing employee relations.

Course Content

The program will include the following-

  • Factors influencing effective mediation;
  • Communication styles;
  • The mediation process;
  • Styles of mediation.

The program will be conducted over two half-day sessions. The first session will be devoted to the development of knowledge and skills and the second will consist of a number of role-plays which will enable participants to view the practical application of mediation in a number of circumstances that may typically arise within the University.
