Overview
This one day program aims to develop staff skills in working within the University - where staff may not have formal authority but are often responsible for results. These skills are directly applicable to working with more senior staff including direct managers.
The program will present a practical framework, workplace tools and case studies.
Intended Outcomes
This program will assist participants to understand and apply a range of definitions, principles, approaches and a set of skills for 'managing up' in the workplace. Participants will analyse their own workplace opportunities and skills in 'managing up'; identifying, through case studies how they can apply these techniques to their own work settings.
Course Content
The program will include:
- Frameworks, definitions, models and descriptions of skills for 'managing up', and the exercise of influence, authority and power in the workplace
- Practical strategies for benefiting the organisation, your manager, other key staff or managers while maintaining your task and underlying purpose
- Participant case studies
Learning Approach
The program is delivered through presentation, extensive written materials, small and large group exercises, group discussion, case studies and participant application.
Handouts
A comprehensive handout of course notes is supplied.
