Overview

This program is for women in leadership roles who want to share with other women the challenges of leading in universities, and who want to strengthen their confidence in the value of using collaborative, relationship focussed approaches. This course looks at ways the qualities that women bring as leaders, and the strength of their styles, skills and techniques.  There will be discussion of common/dominant male-oriented leadership approaches, networking and communication styles, and ways that women can work with these effectively whilst continuing to maintain their own values.  Also in the day are discussions of coping techniques that assist women to be validated and able to survive and thrive in challenging and demanding roles. 

Intended Outcomes

  • Re-energising from sharing common issues and challenges with other women leaders
  • Strengthened belief in the validity of different approaches
  • Clarity of the role and responsibilities of a leader within the university
  • Understanding of ways to build resilience, in oneself and with teams
  • Techniques for stressful times

Course Content

  • Research findings about women in leadership in Australian universities; strengths, dilemmas, values, careers etc
  • Leadership styles and actions based on values and integrity
  • Leader's role and responsibilities
  • Different ways to communicate and handle reactions
  • Common traps for women (and ways to avoid them)
  • Keys to resilient leadership
