Overview
The Monash University Enterprise Agreement (Academic & General Staff) 2005 contains a number of provisions which relate to fixed-term, casual and sessional staff employment. This session is designed to brief Human Resources advisors about those provisions and the University's procedures for applying them.
Intended Outcomes
It is intended that at the end of this session Human Resources advisors will have a detailed understanding of the mode of employment provisions of the Monash University Enterprise Agreement (Academic & General Staff) 2005 and hot to apply them.
Course Content
- Fixed-term staff:
- eligibility criteria for conversion to continuing appointment
- grounds for refusal of conversion
- implementation process for conversion
- non renewal of fixed-term contracts and severance pay entitlements
- best practice and general principles for employment of fixed-term staff
- Casual staff and career progressions:
- eligibility criteria for conversion to fixed-term/continuing appointment
- grounds for refusal of conversion
- implementation process for conversion
- Sessional staff;
- removal of limitations on employment of sessional staff
- best practice and general principles for employment of sessional staff
Learning Approach
The session will provide opportunities for participants to raise issues of interest and/or concern for discussion and clarification. Practical case studies will be used to underpin the knowledge and skills that are referred to throughout the program.
