Overview

This program is designed to provide academic performance development supervisors with a sound working knowledge of the Performance Development Process: Academic Staff, its application at Monash University and their role in supporting the process. The process is intended to be a dynamic and interactive one between staff and supervisors which encourages trust and regular, open communication. The process is based on the principles of growth, feedback and accountability. For further information, refer to the below web site.

Upon successful completion of this program academic performance supervisors will be authorised to sign off staff performance development plans and indicate eligibility for incremental progression.

Intended Outcomes

To develop a knowledge of:

  • the case for performance development
  • Monash University's Performance Development Process: Academic Staff
  • how to use the process and online system effectively
  • how to write career aspirations
  • how to write goals and achievement indicators
  • how to give regular, constructive feedback to staff
  • how to support a staff member's career development
  • what commitment is required - planning, evidence portfolio, career development
  • questioning and listening skills
  • dealing with under performance and poor performance.
