Research administrative staff at school/departmental or faculty level who are required to conduct queries, extract publications data and produce research publications reports for their work unit

  • Familiar with the use of Windows operating system
  • Experience using a database to extract data is recommended, but not mandatory
  • a ResearchMaster (RM) training database account is required prior to training
  • Basic to Intermediate MS Excel competency

Overview

The focus of this workshop is to provide new or existing users of the ResearchMaster Database (RM) with the skills required to able to construct queries using the RM client application - and to present the data returned from the query in a variety of formats - as offered by the program. Additional MS Excel data manipulation and refinement techniques will also be covered.

Intended Outcomes

  • experience using the Publications Module of the ResearchMaster (RM) client application
  • familiarity with the ResearchMaster (RM) client application's user interface
  • to be able to construct and run queries within the ResearchMaster Database's Publications Module
  • to be able to present the data returned from a query in a variety of formats
  • an understanding of the range of reports and output formats provided by the application
  • competency in MS Excel, implementing additional data manipulation techniques

Course Content

On completion of this workshop participants will:

  • have experience using the Publications Module of the ResearchMaster (RM) client application
  • be able to set user-configurable options and preferences
  • have the skills necessary to construct and run queries to return research publications data of interest, within the constraints of a user's access permissions
  • understand what output formats are available, as provided by the application
  • be able to select a suitable report from a list of available reports
  • be able to implement additional MS Excel data manipulation techniques
