Support for Small Businesses on Regional Campuses
Objectives
In the 2006-2007 Budget, the Australian Government allocated $10 million (including departmental expenses) over four years from 2006-2007 to 2009-2010 to the Support for Small Businesses on Regional University Campuses Programme. This programme is to assist higher education providers to encourage and support small businesses to establish operations that provide services for students on regional campuses.
The programme is intended to create new opportunities for small businesses to provide services for students in ways that are responsive to student needs. Previously, some student services were funded from compulsory fees, regardless of whether students chose to use the services. Some small businesses in regional areas may require initial support to locate their operations on campuses. At Monash, this means small businesses at the Gippsland Campus.
This is a competitive, merit-based funding programme.
Previous Funding
In February 2007, $2.6 million was allocated for 11 projects involving 7 universities.
