Recruitment, Selection and Appointment

Purpose

To ensure that Monash attracts and recruits those people who will best advance its objectives and strategic vision

Supporting Research and Analysis

This policy complies with the various legislative and employment frameworks utilised by Australia, Malaysia and South Africa and is designed to enable implementation across all of the University's campuses, both within Australia and internationally.

The Monash University Ethics Statement underpins this policy and does not exclude or replace this policy or its related procedures. In the unlikely event of any inconsistency between the Ethics Statement and this policy, the explicit requirements of this policy shall prevail to the extent of any inconsistency.

Scope

This policy applies to:

  • all campuses; and
  • all staff.

Policy Statement

The University seeks to:

  • ensure position requirements are accurately documented and appropriately classified, taking into account the functions and responsibilities of the role;
  • ensure the Monash ‘brand’ continues to attract quality applicants in an effective manner, drawing from the most appropriate labour markets;
  • ensure appropriate screening processes are adopted in the employment and promotion of staff;
  • ensure staff members meet the goals and objectives of the position they have been employed to undertake and are the best organisational fit;
  • offer a range of staff orientation and induction programs to acclimatise new staff to their working environment, and the organisation’s values and priorities;
  • recognise prestigious and mutually beneficial associations with the University by way of adjunct and honorary appointments;
  • have recruitment, selection and appointment practices that reflect the University’s strategic and operational objectives and have regard to equity and fairness;
  • comply with relevant legislation and obligations; and
  • reinforce and operationalise the values and principles stated in the Monash University Ethics Statement and Monash Directions 2025.
