Whistleblowers
The Victorian Government enacted the Whistleblowers' Protection Act in 2001. The Act came into operation in Victoria on 1 January 2002. Details of the Act can be found at www.ombudsman.vic.gov.au. The main purpose of the Act is to encourage and facilitate the making of disclosures of improper conduct or detrimental action by public officers and public bodies.
The Act provides protection to whistleblowers who make disclosures in accordance with the Act and establishes a system for the matters disclosed to be investigated and for rectifying action to be taken.
