Appointment

Verbal Offers

The Chair of the Selection Committee may informally advise the recommended candidate that he or she is the preferred candidate. The Chair should make it clear to the preferred candidate that the recommendation is subject to approval by the University. The candidate can be advised that, if all is in order, a formal offer should follow from the Human Resources Division.

Appointing Fixed Term/Continuing Staff

In order for an offer of appointment to be made to the preferred candidate, a Recommendation to Appoint Form should be completed, authorised and forwarded to Human Resources prior to the proposed commencement date of the appointee. The application, resume, referees reports and targeted search documentation (if applicable), and any other appropriate documentation relating to the appointment should be forwarded along with the form.

The probationary period for the position will be included in the conditions of the letter of offer. For more information regarding academic probationary procedures refer to Probation and confirmation of appointment. In accordance with the University's Academic Probation and Teaching Qualification system, academic staff may be required to complete a formal Graduate certificate in higher education or Graduate certificate in law teaching as part of their probation.

The candidate is given two weeks to accept and return the letter, before the offer will lapse. When acceptance of the offer is received Human Resources will notify the Faculty/division all other applicants should be notified as unsuccessful.

Appointing casual/sessional staff

When making an appointment for casual/sessional staff the form 'Employment of Casual/Sessional Staff' should be completed, authorised and forwarded to Human Resources.

Other forms required to be completed by a casual/sessional staff member are the 'Banking and employee details form' and' Tax File Number declaration form'.
