Preparing for the commencement of the appointee

Travel and removal costs

In some circumstances, the university may contribute to the travel and/or removal costs of an appointee who is required to move house to take up an appointment with Monash. Details of these reimbursements will be included in the employment contract.

The university may contribute to travel and removal costs for both academic and general staff.

Salary payment

In order for salary payments to commence, the staff member is required to complete and forward to HR Operations 710 Blackburn Road Clayton the following:

The 'Confirmation of commencement of appointee form' [pdf] must be completed on the day the staff member commences employment and emailed to the HR Advisor.

All copies of required documentation such as qualifications and photo ID must be certified as being a true copy of the original by an authorised person. Alternatively the staff member can bring the original document into the departmental HR contact or HR Operations who will certify that they have sighted the original document.

Induction

Induction is a crucial stage in the employment process. A comprehensive and effective introduction to the university should enable the staff member to settle into the new workplace and start to perform their new role as quickly as possible. It is the responsibility of the head or nominee to ensure that new staff receive a planned induction.

To assist with this process, Human Resources Division offers the following to supervisors and their new staff:

  • An induction kit is sent to the successful candidate with their letter of offer;
  • Welcome to Monash , the University's orientation program which all new staff are invited to attend;
  • Supervisor's On-Line Induction Guide, which provides information to supervisors and staff on the stages of the induction process.

During the first twelve months, the supervisor should initiate discussions concerning appropriate practices and opportunities for development and should work with the staff member on an agreed performance management plan, in accordance with the university's Performance Management Scheme. Both the Staff Development Unit and Higher Education Development Unit offer developmental programs for staff.
