Personal relationships and concurrent employment

The following guidelines apply to academic, general and trades and services staff.

For advertised positions, a member of staff who has or has had a close personal relationship with a candidate or applicant shall not take part in the selection procedure. Please also refer to Conflict of Interest (Academic Staff) and Processing of applications, interviewing and selection of appointees, Procedures (General and Trades and Services Staff).

For positions which are not advertised (i.e. casual or short-term fixed-term appointments of up to one year) prior approval must be obtained to appoint a person who is known to have, or have had, a close personal relationship with a staff member working in the same department or area. Approval will only be given when the dean of the faculty, or equivalent, is given satisfactory evidence that the individual nominated is appropriately qualified to perform the duties of the position and it is unlikely that a better person could be appointed. Satisfactory evidence will consist of documentary evidence, including the individual's curriculum vitae, details of the search process, and any other relevant documentation.

A member of staff shall not take part in any promotion, reclassification, evaluation or grievance procedures involving a staff member with whom that member has or has had a close personal relationship.
