Determine mode and time fraction of appointment

Faculties and divisions must determine whether the appointment is to be continuing, fixed-term, casual or sessional, as well as the time fraction of any continuing or fixed-term appointment.

The length of a fixed term appointment is determined by the period for which the employment is required. The length of each term will vary according to the particular circumstances. The following is provided as a general guide only and each case will be treated on its merits:

Academic roles
Research-only For periods of up to 3 years where funding is available and the required research extends beyond 12 months.
Teaching Generally up to a maximum of 3 years. However each case is determined on its merits and available budget.
Professorial For periods of up to 5 years based on the merits of the case and availability of budget.
Professional roles
HEW 1-10 Generally up to a maximum of 3 years. However each case determined on its merits and availability of budget
