Maternity leave

Parental Leave Policies

Parental leave entitlements for Monash University staff are currently dealt with by both the Monash University Enterprise Agreements and in the Monash University Maternity Leave Policy.

By the end of November 2005, three new Enterprise Agreements are expected to be certified by the Australian Industrial Relations Commission. These are the Monash University Enterprise Agreement (Academic and General Staff) 2005(certified 22/11/05) and the Monash University Enterprise Agreement (Trades and Services Staff - Catering and Retail, Cleaning and Caretaking, and Miscellaneous Services Staff) 2005 and Monash University Enterprise Agreement (Trades and Services Staff - Building and Metal Trades Staff and Grounds and Gardening Staff) 2005.

The 2005 Enterprise Agreements contain new and comprehensive provisions relating to parental leave. Parental leave in the 2005 Enterprise Agreements covers maternity leave, adoption leave and spouse/partner birth leave. Consequently, to avoid confusion, all existing University Parental Leave Policies will be revoked and cease to have effect on and from 22/11/05, that is the date of certification of the Monash University Enterprise Agreement (Academic and General Staff) 2005. The parental leave provisions contained in the Enterprise Agreements will be supplemented by specific forms and procedures including:

  • application forms;
  • statutory declarations that are necessary for accessing parental leave entitlements; and
  • a proforma return to work deed that must be completed by staff who access paid parental leave in excess of 14 weeks and paid at 60% of the ordinary rate of pay .

Any queries about these matters should be referred to Human Resources.
