Staff exchanges with other tertiary institutions

The university supports and encourages collaborations and exchange agreements with universities and other organisations.

In the case of Academic staff, exchanges aim to provide opportunity for stimulation of teaching and research activities and to foster and promote collaborative arrangements particularly in the area of research which is seen to be of mutual benefit to the respective organisations and the staff members involved

Similarly for General staff, exchanges offer the opportunity for relevant professional development supporting both individual career planning and the needs of the university.

Accordingly, the university will be willing to consider an application for a staff exchange which facilitates such objectives with another university or tertiary institution within Australia or overseas.

The initiative for arranging an exchange rests primarily with the two staff members concerned.

A dean or a divisional director on the recommendation of a head of department/head of administrative unit may approve an exchange of staff. Details of the completed and approved staff exchange agreement should be forwarded to Human Resources Division.

Each staff member will remain a full-time staff member of the home university and should continue to be paid by her/his own university with continuing eligibility for outside studies program and long service leave and with worker's compensation, superannuation, disability pension and accident insurance cover, as in her/his normal appointment.

An exchange and an outside studies program may be taken in conjunction with each other, provided the arrangement is an end-on one, if this will optimise benefits to the respective institutions.

Within Australia, an exchange should not be for longer than one calendar year in the first instance but may be renewed for a further year with the approval of the dean on the recommendation of the head of department/head of administrative unit.

For international staff exchange, contact International Staff Services.

A dean or divisional director may provide financial assistance towards travel and accommodation expenses from her/his budget according to the prescribed university allowances. Where an exchange is arranged in conjunction with a period of outside studies program the university may consider a contribution towards the member's travel and accommodation expenses at a level fixed by reference to the financial assistance under the outside studies program.

Salary increments will be paid if applicable, as if the staff member were geographically located at the home university.
