Appointment procedure - Deputy Dean, and Associate Dean

Legislation

Appointment of Deputy Dean and Associate Dean

Refer to section 5 Procedures for Appointment of a Deputy Dean, Associate, Head of School/Department and Deputy Head of School/Department.

In addition to the Procedures for Appointment, the following may be considered when appointing a deputy and/or Associate Dean:

The position of Deputy Dean is not mandatory but makes provision for the appointment of a staff member who could act automatically for the dean. This is consistent with statute 3.3, subsection 2.8

An Associate Dean may hold concurrently the position of Deputy Dean. This is consistent with current statutory provisions under which the Associate Dean acts for the dean where there is no acting dean (statute 3.3, subsection 3.2) and chairs faculty board where the dean has vacated the chair or is absent (statute 2.3, subsection 10.2)

A staff member of the faculty appointed as Deputy Dean and/or Associate Dean may receive relief from normal duties at the discretion of the dean.
