Appointment procedure - Deputy Dean, Associate, Head of School/Department and Deputy Head of School/Department
The appointment of a Deputy Dean, Associate Dean, head of school/department and deputy head of school/department should be made in accordance with the following procedures:
Appointment to any of the positions is made at the recommendation of the dean, in consultation with senior members of the faculty and/or faculty board. For appointment of a Deputy Dean, the dean also seeks the endorsement of the vice-chancellor and for an Associate Dean, the endorsement of the relevant deputy vice-chancellor.
The appointment to any of the positions can be made for a fixed term of up to three years. The term may be renewable after three years.
Each November the dean is asked to advise the Monash HR of the appointment(s) for the following calendar year. For Deputy Deans, Associate Deans and head of school/departments the dean may request payment of a responsibility loading, in accordance with the Remuneration Policy for Deputy Deans, Associate Dean, Heads of Schools/Departments and Deputy Heads of Schools/Departments. For appointments made part way through the year, the dean is asked to advise Monash HR and may request payment of a pro-rata responsibility loading in accordance with the Remuneration Policy.
