National Health and Medical Research Council (NH & MRC) academic titles
Members of Academic staff employed by the university to undertake research under National Health and Medical Research Council (NH &MRC) funds (or associated scales), and who agree to perform teaching and administrative functions, may seek to have an extension to their academic title conferred.
These titles are available to research only staff who undertake additional teaching and administrative responsibilities where:
- the responsibilities are consistent with the staff member's agreed and approved engagement profile;
- the teaching and/or administrative responsibilities are at a level consistent with the staff member's substantive academic level.
The academic titles available include:
- NH&MRC Senior Research Fellow (A) - Lecturer
- NH&MRC Senior Research Fellow (B) - Senior Lecturer
- NH&MRC Principal Research Fellow - Associate Professor
- NH&MRC Senior Principal Research Fellow - Professor
Process for conferring a title
The process of conferring the academic title is as follows:
Assistant Lecturer, Lecturer and Senior Lecturer
The Dean of Medicine may confer the title upon receipt of a documented case detailing the teaching and administrative activities of the member of staff additional to their research responsibilities.
Associate Professor
The Dean of Medicine will forward a documented case detailing the teaching and administrative activities of the member of staff additional to their research responsibilities to the Committee for Academic Promotions and Appointments Levels B-D for determination.
Professor
The Dean of Medicine will forward a documented case detailing the teaching and administrative activities of the member of staff additional to their research responsibilities to the Special Professorial Appointments Committee for determination. |
