Teaching Associate Staff (formerly Sessional staff)
Coverage
The meaning of Sessional Employment is set out in clause 16.12 - Mode of Employment of the Monash University Enterprise Agreement (Academic and Professional Staff) 2009. Minimum payment for these services is based on the teaching associate sessional or hourly rate specified in Schedule 2 – Teaching Associate Sessional Rates of the Monash University Enterprise Agreement (Academic and Professional Staff) 2009 or, where applicable, the provisions of the relevant AWA Terms and Benefits Policy.
Discretion of deans and heads of administrative units
Subject to these guidelines and on the advice of the head of administrative unit, Deans have the discretion to determine whether sessions should be regarded as:
- a tutorial and which of the four prescribed rates of payment is appropriate – refer to Schedule 3; or
- a lecture and which of the four prescribed rates of payment is appropriate refer to Schedule 3; or
- musical accompanying with special educational services - refer to Schedule 3; or
- undergraduate clinical nurse education - refer to Schedule 3; or
- marking to be paid at one of three appropriate hourly rates - refer to Schedule 3; or
- supervision either with or without preparation, to be paid at one of three rates - refer to Schedule 3; or
- other required academic activity as defined - refer to Schedule 3.
Appointment procedures and payment of salaries
Administrative units will enter the type of session and hours worked for the pay period and return the form to the salaries office for payment. (Automatic pay procedures will no longer operate for teaching associate staff (formerly sessional staff) and individual time sheets are no longer necessary.)
Please note that staff members are not permitted to authorise salary payments to members of their immediate family. Such payments are to be authorised by the officer to whom the staff member reports. |
