Notes regarding NH&MRC scales
Research staff receiving salaries or stipends under NH&MRC grants are engaged and employed by the institutions to which the grants are paid and these institutions are responsible for the administrative control of the staff and all legal liabilities in connection with their employment.
NH&MRC may include in this category staff who have obtained:
A University degree or equivalent or an equivalent diploma or any other diploma which, although of less than University degree standard, is nationally recognised as qualifying a person for professional status, or any other training which, though of less than University degree or diploma level, as specified above, is nationally recognised as qualifying a person for professional status (e.g. admission to professional societies or institutions, or having the qualifications necessary for such admissions.)
The entry point for research assistants is in accordance with postgraduate experience and ability; for a science graduate with a pass degree and less than one year's postgraduate experience the normal entry point is Monash classification Academic Level A, Step 8. For a graduate with an Honours degree and not more than one year's postgraduate experience the normal entry point is Monash classification Academic Level A, Step 7.
The entry point for science graduates with a M. Sc., M. Psych or B.V.S. is Monash Classification Academic Level A, Step 6. The entry point for science graduates with a Ph.D. and less than one year's post-doctoral experience is Monash classification Academic Level A, Step 3.
The normal entry point for medical or dental graduates with less than one year's postgraduate experience is Monash classification Academic Level A, Step 3.
Stipends for C.J. Martin Fellows are available on request from Monash HR.
Persons holding paramedical qualifications, e.g. physiotherapists, nurses, pharmacists, will be classified and paid according to the Monash University Enterprise Agreement (Academic and Professional Staff) 2009 or their AWA.
Appointment as research fellow or above is subject to a specific NH&MRC appointment.
