Workforce Management Policy

Preamble

The following procedures are to support breastfeeding staff of the University, including those who continue to breastfeed on their return from maternity leave.

Access to Suitable Facilities

The University will, where practicable, provide access to suitable facilities to breastfeed and/or express and store breast milk. This may include facilities with a power point, lockable door, chair, nappy change area, hand-washing facilities, refrigerator and breast pump storage area.

Responsibility – Supervisors

Flexible Work Arrangements

Staff who are breastfeeding may approach their supervisors to seek flexible work arrangements to balance their work and breastfeeding, including flexible hours. Supervisors will seek to strike a balance between the operational requirements of their work units and the needs of their breastfeeding staff.

Lactation Breaks

The University will provide reasonable flexibility for breastfeeding staff to take paid lactation breaks during work hours.
