Parent policy

Workforce Management Policy

Preamble

The following guidelines are to facilitate the operation of the Workforce Management Procedure – Work Life (Children in the Workplace).

Definitions

Sick child: A child too ill to attend school or a childcare centre.

Requests to Bring Children into Workplaces

Staff requests to bring children into workplaces are preferably to be submitted for approval in advance. No reasonable request should be refused.

Factors to be taken into account in considering requests to bring children into workplaces include:

  • the age of the child;
  • the workplace environment, including location and size;
  • the degree of potential interference with other staff in the workplace; and
  • the feasibility of home-based work.

Provision for a sick child should normally be made within the context of carer’s leave, compassionate leave, annual leave, and/or special paid or unpaid leave.

Responsibilities of Staff Bringing Children into Workplaces

Staff bringing children into workplaces should recognise and be sensitive to the needs of other staff members, and should not expect other staff members to care for those children.
